Ger Lataster the Netherlands — 1920

Ger Lataster °1920

Ger Lataster (Schaesberg, February 16, 1920) can be counted among the abstract expressionists. After his studies at the College of Industrial Art in Maastricht, he then studied at the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Lataster is able to take abstract expressionism to the extreme. By using contrasting elements, techniques and materials, he manages to surprise the viewer time and time again. Because Lataster consistently applies these techniques, his works of art appear reliable, no matter how great the changes have been in recent years. Well-known works by Lataster are the painting 'Playing children' - made in 1954, commissioned by the municipality of Heerlen - and the monumental ceiling painting for the Mauritshuis in The Hague, Icarus Atlanticus, 1987-1988. Lataster is one of the most successful Dutch artists of his generation.
